Invited lecture title:Fusing simulation and monitoring data for applications in mechanized tunneling: A physics-informed machine learning approach

Dr.-Ing. Ba Trung Cao is currently the Leader of two Research Groups "Computational Inteligence & Structural Reliability" (since 2021) and “Computational Modeling in Tunneling & Underground Structures" (since 2023) at Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), Germany. From 2021 to 2023, he was the Science Manager of the Research Department in Subsurface Modeling & Engineering at RUB, From 2018 to 2021, he was a post-doc research associate in the Institute for Structural Mechanics at RUB. He received his PhD degree at the same university in 2018 with a focus on Computational Tunnel Engineering. His research interests are related to computational models and digitalization in tunnel &underground engineering; the application of machine learning and computational intelligence in civil engineering; the physics-informed machine learning in applied mechanics as well as the uncertainty quantification in structural mechanics. He has been the principal investigator and the lead researcher of 5 national research grants in Germany.
