Invited lecture title:Modelling the mechanical behaviour of artificially frozen coarse soils in geotechnical engineering problems

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Roberto Cudmani is the Chair of the Institute of Soil Mechanics, Rock Mechanics, Foundation Engineering, and Tunnelling and the managing director of the Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory at the Technical University of Munich. Before becoming a Full Professor at TUM in 2015, he worked as a research associate at the Universidade de Rio Grande do Sul and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, as a geotechnical engineer in two leading German construction companies, and as a geotechnical consultant at an important geotechnical consulting company in the South of Germany. His main fields of research and expertise in soil mechanics and geotechnical Engineering include mechanical and hydraulic behavior of soils and soil-like materials, laboratory and field testing, constitutive modeling, soil dynamics, geotechnical earthquake engineering, dynamic penetration, soil-structure-Interaction, foundation engineering, ground improvement, tunneling, numerical methods in geotechnics, sustainability and resilience of critical infrastructure. As a member of the German Society of Geotechnical Engineering, DIN Standards Committee, and Deutsches Talsperren Committee, among others, he is actively involved in various academic, standards, and regulatory bodies. He is Vice-chairman of the TC 221 “Tailings and Mining Waste” of the International Society of Soil Mechanics and Foundation engineering.
